on the last full day of squam, i had the pleasure of joining maya stein in a writing class. what you read below was scribbled in my journal, in a cabin, in the woods, beside the lake, surrounded by love, in a room full of crazy open hearts…
yes, there is a story
a story of a girl
who lived a life feeling small
as she walked the streets gazing at looming facades
as she scrambled rocks seeking fingerholds
there is a story
a story of a girl
who lived a life feeling a wee bit tiny
walking beside others who seemed so grand
holding hands that felt so strong, so sure
and so she walked and she scrambled and she held those hands
again and again and again
…and she began to grow
there is a story
a story of a girl
who learned to feel big
who learned to sink deep into her shoes
and root herself to the earth
there is a story
a story of a girl
yes, there is a story
i know this girl intimately. do you?
sending a little love your way, m
Yes. Yes, for the little girl growing and rooting and finding herself and yes for that girl sharing such joy and presence with the world.
I love the idea of her growing big and rooting herself…
I loved that you shared this!! And I love that I get to see you grow, and become planted in the earth and move the sky toward the sky becoming big.
Oh wow, I love thisssss! Awesome
I’m lucky to have experienced a little of what you are speaking of. Perfectly put.
