2017 Is Your Poem

656newyearI shared this quote on my ViewFinders post the other day:

I have never started a poem yet whose end I knew.
Writing a poem is discovering.
~Robert Frost~

This is how a new year feels to me.  And sometimes, when I’m not caught up in all the Doing, it’s how a new day feels to me too.  I like that.

Of course, there are aspects of a day or week or year that are reliable and predictable. But there are things (in a day, a week, a year) that also come unbidden. Sometimes these things surface as unwelcome challenge. Sometimes (more often than not) (if I pay attention) they arrive as gift.

In the midst of the challenges that will come and the gifts alongside, I set intentions and hold dreams.  There is work to be done.  There is making a home and raising a family.  There is writing and there is picture making. There is healing and there is loving.  Always these last two…in my home and in my community and in my world, your world, our world.

If this new year (if life) is a poem and we don’t yet know its ending, well then, let’s get on with the writing and discovering.  Are you with me?

Sending a little love your way, m

  1. Mostly I am a silent reader, but there is always a conversation when your post arrives in my Inbox, as I nod my head in understanding and appreciation. You had me at ‘healing and loving’ and your calm photographs and thoughtful words set the tone – where every day can be a new year’s day. Many thanks.

  2. I love the idea of my life being a poem, with stanzas yet to be discovered. Beautiful way to look at the new year, Michelle. xx
