The daffodils are blooming.
What if that’s all I wrote? What if the only words you read here today were The daffodils are blooming? Would that be enough?
Because I think that might be all I need to say. The daffodils are blooming.
I am a lover of winter, but I know many of you are fond of warmer days. I’m happy for you, am happy that warmer days are coming (unless you live south of the equator…in which case, can I come visit?!). I’m happy that so many of you are happy.
And it’s not that I’m unhappy. It’s just that I could go either way. I’d happily carry on for months more with my grey, wool sweater that is thinning at the elbows and my slippers and my fleece gloves outdoors and my pretty fingerless mitts indoors. I’d be pleased with the sun setting before dinner and a fire lit daily. I really, truly would.
And yet. The daffodils are blooming.
My daughter and I have been watching since the tips of green poked through the ground weeks ago. I was nervous they might bloom too soon; temperatures have fluctuated from below freezing to the kids donning shorts one day. But I needn’t have worried. The daffodils (and our neighbor’s crocuses) seem to know what they’re doing.
And so. I look at their sweet faces raised to the world. I look at their buttery petals dancing in the breeze. I look, and I feel joy. What more can I say?
The daffodils are blooming.
I believe that’s all that needs saying.
Sending a little love your way, m
“I’d be pleased with the sun setting before dinner and a fire lit daily. ”
Yes, me too. If there wasn’t the expectation of warmth around the corner, I could happily carry on with longer nights and layers of clothing and blankets. And yet… daffodils. Yes.
Oh, the daffodils…they have my heart.
It’s still snowing here, and the daffodils are poking through, but it will still be awhile before they bloom. I have a vase full of them from Trader Joe’s to compensate. I am so. ready. for. spring.
I’m glad you have a vase of daffodils from Trader Joe’s to tide you over!
Hang in there…spring is just around the corner!
The daffodils are blooming here as well and I say AMEN. when I don on my winter coat I know that Mother Nature is doing her thing and I need to be patient, which I am not :)
Lots of folks are feeling impatient this year ;)
Enjoy your sweet daffodils!
Ah, the sweet refuge of sunny daffodils on a stormy day. Grateful.
It was a stormy day when I took that photo above. They’re a sunny and sweet refuge indeed!
I am so I met your words today, Friday late evening. Because, suddenly daffodils are blooming and that’s all I needed to know to save the last few hours of this day.
Oops I am so glad*
They’re a sweet sight, aren’t they? I hope you’ve had a good evening, and enjoy your weekend, Gi!
I am so happy for you, Michelle! They are just starting to poke their heads up out of the ground here in CT, I think we have another week or so before they bloom. I love winter also, but this year I am so ready for spring!
: ) There is a beautiful farm not far from where I live where acres of daffodils have been planted over the years. I look forward to visiting this year with my camera. Have a wonderful weekend! xx
Acres of daffodils?! Oh, that must be gorgeous! Have fun taking pictures once that snow melts and once those sweet little yellow faces pop through…
I’m thinking that this week might be a good week to head up there. Spring has been so slow in arriving this year! xx
I’ll be watching for a picture or two on IG ;)
Daffodils blooming here too. Don’t you just love the way they huddle together, nodding. Wishing you a a splendid weekend, dear Michelle ❤️
Oh, I’m glad to know the daffodils are blooming across the big pond too! And yes…I love the way they huddle together…and the nodding. That’s exactly what it is. So gentle, comforting, familiar. Hope you have a splendid weekend too, Jane!
