What Are You Waiting For?

Are you waiting for something better than perfectly salted crackers at four o’clock in the afternoon?

Are you waiting for something better than hot water pouring down your body and maybe the scent of lavender rising with the steam?

Are you waiting for something better than your teenage kids playing Xbox in the basement, the older one playing a game he’d likely not play if not for his younger sibling?

Are you waiting for something better than pink blossoms on the tree outside your window?

Are you waiting for something better than parents laughing on your phone screen, laughter that makes you forget they’re getting older at the same time it reminds you that they are?

Are you waiting for something better than a furry pup who looks like a bear cub when her fur grows long, and it curls?

Are you waiting for something better than the tall stool pulled to the raised counter where your book lays open, and into which the words pour?

Are you waiting for something better than plans to talk to a friend?

Are you waiting for something better than plans to meet another friend, in her backyard and six feet apart?

Are you waiting for something better than waking up next to the one you love?

Are you waiting for something better than the sun, the wind, the blue sky?

Are you waiting for something better than a text from your sister, letting you know she’s holding steady?

Are you waiting for something better than listening to Green Day on your way to pick up the pizza, delivered curbside?

Are you waiting for something better than today?

…are you??

sending a little love your way, m

  1. Michelle, this poem is so very lovely and timely. And those pink blossoms are divine. I find that I am returning again and again to the present moment in order to keep my mind from become anxious about the future. Staying in the present moment and finding blessings throughout my day have been the winning ticket. xoxo

  2. I was just thinking about this the other day – what am I waiting for? Your list of wondering sis just what I needed to see this morning.

  3. Oh my gosh! I almost missed J5T registration again! I haven’t seen your post on IG? Did you posted it there? I know I shouldn’t keeping ‘waiting’ that the time is here and now, but my mind is always in the mood of ‘what if’! Have a great weekend my friend! And this photo is fabulous, I tried to take some cherry tree photos, but they didn’t turn out great, I’ll try again this weekend!

    1. You didn’t miss it yet…still time! I posted about it on IG once or twice…there’s so much there though, easy to miss.
I hope you have a great weekend too, Elizabeth…and I hope you get some photos of the cherry trees that make you happy!

  4. I try my best to focus on something great to do everyday, maybe sketching or reading or knitting. If I wait for the perfect time the perfect time never arrives and other nonsense creeps in!!

    1. That’s awesome, Karen! I’m guilty of sometimes waiting for that ever-illusive perfect time ;) Other nonsense always creeps in!
I’m so glad you get right to it. ❤️

  5. Hi Michelle! I love it when I friend says just what I need to hear. Of this list, nine items apply to me and my life right now. It’s the right now part that I needed to be reminded of – not the future. Starting this day off with a beautiful attitude thanks to you and your kind words and pink blossoms. Thank you!

    1. Aw, Donna, now you’re starting *me* off with a beautiful attitude. So glad to find you here this morning, grateful for you.
