A Tiny Bit of Quiet :: August 7

A quiet journaling series.  Read here to learn more about following along from June 19 – August 28.   As inspired, please share in the comments below + use #atinybitofquiet on Instagram.

There is no panacea, or utopia, there is just love and kindness and trying, amid the chaos, to make things better where we can.
And to keep our minds wide, wide open
in a world that often wants to close them.
~ Matt Haig ~

It’s important to keep an eye on the bigger picture.
It’s equally important to keep an eye on the place where we stand.

• Jot down a few things that are going on in the big, wide world right now. It doesn’t have to be an exhaustive list (that might take too long, sigh), just note a few things that pop into your mind.

• Now jot down a few things that are going on in your personal life (in your immediate and intimate world) right now. Again, no need to be exhaustive in your list, just whatever comes to mind.

• Looking at both lists, is there anything that you might be able to make a little better? I’m not suggesting you fix everything (that’s not realistic) (especially because there might be things on your lists that are totally out of your control), but are there small steps you could take to shift things a bit? Create a healthier habit?  Listen more carefully?  Drink more water?  Say you’re sorry?
Consider ways you can try, amid the chaos, to make things just a little better.

• Sometimes we feel like there’s nothing we can do to change a situation. Sometimes this is true. Other times, this is a story told to us by someone else.  Consider the stories tucked into both of your lists.  What stories (and actions) can you truly own?  What stories (and actions) can you let go?

always the love, m

P.S. Registration is open for my creative listmaking class, Just Five Things.   I can’t wait to make lists that explore the themes of reset and recharge.  Much needed?  Um, yep.  You can sign up here.
