If you live in the northern Virginia area and have (homeschooled) teenagers, I’d like to invite you to join me in a special four-week Creative Journaling Workshop I’ll be offering at Compass Homeschool Enrichment.
In this four-week workshop students will explore creative journaling techniques and the ways a journal supports self-expression and self-discovery. In the first class, students will make their own hand-stitched journals and will discuss how the creative journaling process is different from the traditional ‘Dear Diary’ style. In the following weeks, they will explore various self-expression techniques such as blackout poetry, list making, and collage, and will use these techniques to fill the pages of their journals. Students will be encouraged to express themselves through freeform writing and experimentation with simple mixed media. In this introductory workshop students will work through prompts and personal reflections, and will develop a sense of how journals are safe spaces to process emotion, explore creativity, and cultivate self-awareness.
No formal writing or art experience is needed. All curious teens are welcome.
This workshop will have a $10 Materials fee payable to the instructor on the first day of class. Students are welcome to bring favorite pens/pencils/markers to class, but supplies will be available to students during the four classes.
Dates for class: March 22, March 29, April 5, April 12
Ages: grades 9-12 (ages 14-18)
Cost: $82 ($73.80 if you register before March 2)
